Leave it to these L.A. punk rebels
to record a totally improvisational live album. The foursome has opted for a
musical approach based on a series of jagged, death-rock instrumental
workouts that have very little to do with hummable melodies and catchy
hooks. These slow to medium motion jams add even darker shadings to vocalist
Jack Brewer's Camus-style, spoken-word critiques/observations. These
semi-Doorsian psychodramas hardly match "The End" as metaphysical poetry,
but there are some incisive moments when Joe Baiza's shards-of-glass- guitar
work combines with Brewer's somber delivery to produce some chilling scenes
of rock noir. Recorded at McCabe's last June, "Worldbroken" is
a free-form look at a discombobulated world. |
