1985 review of "worldbroken" |
|
Since, in my lifetime, there have
only been a handful of geniuses who could produce any really memorable free
association, I had my doubts about this "totally improvised" LP.
Worldbroken may make you forget, at least temporarily, how
underachievers have nearly demolished complete spontaneity as a viable form
of performance. Joe Baiza's guitaring is full of weird wonders and Jack
Brewer's stream of consciousness is occasionally brilliant. Not that
Saccharine Trust are free-form masters. Though challenging, the record is
spotty and fade-outs indicate that there's already been some editing. And
often Worldbroken sounds like an all-night freakout where anybody who's not
doing psilocybin has been in bed for hours and hours. But nobody's taken
this many chances in years. And certainly nobody's had a better success rate
than Saccharine Trust. |
